Microbial and Molecular Research Technician

We are seeking a Microbial and Molecular Research Technician to support various MBIE-funded and commercial projects in the Biodiversity and Conservation team based at our Lincoln site.

About the opportunity

The purpose of this role is to provide technical assistance to plant pathology research, including lab work and field work, to perform and/or develop conventional molecular and next generation sequencing techniques and to assist with DNA-based diagnostics services.

This position is fixed-term (three years), full-time (37.5 hours per week) and reports to a Capability Leader in the Biodiversity and Conservation team.

About you

You will have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Biological Sciences field, ideally with a postgraduate qualification.

Practical experience in plant pathology, field work, molecular techniques and research data analysis are essential for this role.

You will also have experience with qPCR, Next Generation Sequencing methods and a good understanding of general lab management and maintenance. Skills in plant and microbial genetics, basic bioinformatics and the management of large datasets would be desirable.

The role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, diligent record keeping, and the ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.
