  • New Executive Team
  • Fixed Term Change Leadership Role
  • Unprecedented opportunity to make a difference in a region of national significance

The Mackenzie District Council covers an area of approximately 746,000 hectares, one of the largest Councils in terms of its land area.  Its geography is dominated by the iconic Aoraki Mount Cook, Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki and the Mackenzie basin. The district includes the towns of Fairlie, Lake Tekapo, and Twizel and the alpine village of Mount Cook.

Four ski fields, golf courses, the National Rowing facilities at Lake Ruataniwha, the Dark Sky Reserve and numerous walks and cycleways has driven significant national and international tourism growth. The Council is committed to managing this growth in a manner sensitive to this iconic environment - seeing peace and serenity as an asset and making decisions that will leave things better for the future.

With a small rate payer base and large geographic area we need to dare to be different and innovative in how we work. We are looking to build the capacity and capability of our organisation to meet these challenges. We offer you the opportunity to work with us on these challenges, with employment packages and flexibility to enjoy all this district has to offer!

As a key member of the new Executive Team, this 2-year fixed term role will work closely with the CEO, GMs, People & Culture Manager and Communications Advisor to give effect to the recommendations of the recent organisational and CouncilMark reviews.  You will develop business cases to support the organisational change initiatives, develop the programme of work and deliver the projects ensuring staff embrace them and they are implemented with minimal disruption to daily activities.

Candidates of interest will be experienced change agents with expertise in local government at senior level. You will have demonstrated success influencing and working through people to embrace change, ensuring the programme of work is effectively managed to budget, within deadlines and delivers the expected outcomes. Proven success with programme management in a multi-faceted organisation, the ability to lead and contribute within a team environment, and the ability to work closely with senior team members is essential.

This represents a rare opportunity for an executive with a growth mindset and positive can-do attitude, who is up for the challenge required to shape a high performing Council that dares to be different.

To apply in strict confidence now, email your cover letter and CV to quoting 581285sk.  Applications close on 24 March 2019. Emails will be electronically acknowledged and further correspondence may be by email.
