Social Worker

As a Social Worker – Teen Parent you will work directly with teenage parents in their own environment to help develop resiliency, reinforce positive parenting, and assist them to access community resources. This is a 12 month fixed term role to cover parental leave and is based in Barnardos' Waikato office.

Responsibilities

  • Work with teenage parents intensively using your wide range of social work skills and strategies to improve outcomes for teenage parents and their children
  • Collaborate with teenage parents to assess their needs, and that of their children and tamariki 
  • Create and monitor action plans using appropriate interventions and the resources available to assist the client family
  • Contribute to the development of group programmes and deliver them to children and families to reinforce this one-to-one work
  • Support families to use their strengths, support networks and resources independently to develop greater resiliency while maintaining a positive and safe environment for their children and family within their community 

    Skills and Experience

  • Registration with SWRB or eligibility to register
  • Experience of working with children and families
  • Proven ability to complete complex child and parenting case assessments & case work
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience in Family Court work and effective report writing skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • A current clean driver's licence
