The role:

You will be responsible for providing accurate and timely testing on samples from all areas of production. You will also be accountable for the smooth running of the microbiological function of the laboratory as well as supplying technical support and maintaining a high level of liaison with production.  Innovation is a given!

The role embraces TPM (Total Productive Management) philosophy with a strong emphasis on quality improvement.

You will need to champion to the DB Breweries Waitemata Quality System, and Heineken Laboratory Star methodology, plus maintain accurate and legible laboratory records throughout.  

About you:

To be suitable for this role you will need:

  • Either a tertiary qualification majoring in microbiology or at least a relevant tertiary science qualification with a microbiology component in it.
  • At least a year of laboratory experience as a microbiologist in a food or beverage manufacturing company.   
  • Adaptability and a strong willingness to learn. The role requires you to be able to take on new concepts and ideas and apply these accordingly.
  • A good eye for detail with hands on practicality. While being based in the laboratory, you will be expected to enter production areas to become familiar with plant processes and work closely alongside our technical team and plant operators.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. The role requires you to be able report results and findings succinctly and accurately to a diverse range of customers ranging from shop floor level up to management. 
  • Familiarity with TPM, Lean, 6 Sigma or other improvement philosophies and an ISO 17025 laboratory environment will beneficial.
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills are paramount, as is the ability to work as part of a high performing team.
