Since 2011, Chorus has been focused on building the lion’s share of the country’s Ultra-Fast Broadband programme. It’s a programme that will see 87 percent of New Zealanders having access to fibre by 2022. The Role

As the company prepares for the next chapter in its future, the exciting Wellington based role of a Corporate Strategy Manager has opened up in the Strategy team, which is a part of the Strategy & Business Operations functional unit. The role will support both, near and longer-term strategic objectives for Chorus including the detailing of a pan-Chorus strategy, providing relevant execution support and tracking progress.This role requires working on key strategic priorities ,, with the opportunity to help define and shape the future direction of the company.

Key responsibilities in this role include:

  • Providing objective strategic and commercial advice;
  • Bringing in a strong perspective on the telco market and associated trends;
  • Applying a strong strategic, pan-Chorus thinking to issues;
  • Building strong internal networks and collaborate effectively with Chorus Functional Units;
  • Detail and execute on a pan-Chorus Corporate Strategy framework;
  • Determine our strategic posture towards market forces and help identify corresponding shifts that might be required;
  • Lead thinking and provide a pan-Chorus perspective to the commercialisation of innovation / BAU opportunities;
  • Supporting Functional Units in cascading down pan-Chorus strategic priorities to their respective Functions and teams, to ensure joined-up execution;
  • Leading and driving relevant strategic initiatives across Chorus, including business casing and financial modelling;
  • Comfort working with senior Chorus leaders and Executive stakeholders.

Your Background

Skills and Experience required for this role are as follows:

  • At least 7 years' experience in a relevant strategy, consulting or functional role (with strong strategy exposure);
  • Telecommunications (or relevant technology) industry experience;
  • Experience in developing business unit and/or corporate strategy and presenting this at Executive/CEO level;
  • Experience in running or managing project teams;Independent self-thinker, highly motivated and proactive in approach;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to bring strategic thinking to problem solving;
  • Understanding of telco and technology trends;
  • Exposure to strategy frameworks / strategic thinking;
  • Financial and commercial experience in business casing, financial modelling, commercialisation of new initiatives and/or commercial transaction experience;
  • Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to, Excel and Power Point;
  • Ability to be flexible in ambiguity, dealing with conflicting priorities and changing requirements;
  • Collaborative style and builder of strong working relationships.
