Deputy Regional Commissioner - Lower North Region

Closing Date: Wednesday 20th February 2019
Location: Lower North Region (Wellington)

  • Exciting Leadership Opportunity

Corrections are a highly motivated organisation focused on breaking the cycle of re-offending and creating lasting change – our passion for making a difference is incredible. The work is highly stimulating, exposing you to a wide range of issues requiring critical thinking. Whilst we are a large and complex organisation, we are a united workforce driving for change.

Reporting into the Regional Commissioner - Lower North Region, the Deputy Regional Commissioner is a key leadership role that will undertake governance oversight on behalf of the Regional Commissioner across a number of critical business operations. The role will further oversee Corrections’ engagement and participation in joint Justice Sector governance initiatives within the region and other functions as directed by the Regional Commissioner. You will play a key role in taking Corrections to the next stage of its development.

We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate proven experience in a senior management role within a complex operational environment ideally within the public sector. You will be someone with the ability to think conceptually and make the big picture connections while remaining attuned to everyday operational issues.

This presents an opportunity to shape the role and have visibility across all levels of the organisation, therefore you will present with a high level of business and financial acumen, the agility to evolve and enhance practice to ensure capability is raised and in doing so contribute to driving the region forward. As well as a focus on practice, other opportunities encompass capacity to drive the regional Maori strategy, gang and youth strategy and district planning. You will also have responsibility for driving our Regional Health & Safety and Wellbeing strategy.

The successful appointee will demonstrate the ability to think laterally in order to address complex business issues, and capability to establish strong relationships both internally and externally with critical stakeholders. Experience in working on cross agency initiatives is highly desirable. To this end you will present with exemplary interpersonal skills that encourage commitment from others, and demonstrate personal drive, integrity, and commitment to the department as one organisation.

All applications must be submitted online via our recruitment system. Please note: Applications that are emailed directly will NOT be considered.
