Technician

The role and opportunity

AgResearch is looking for an experienced and passionate technician to join their Soil Biology team based in Lincoln, just outside of Christchurch. The Soil Biology Team conducts internationally-recognised research into soil biology and ecology with the primary aim of discovery and delivery of sustainable biological solutions to overcome constraints on plant growth.

This role will perform a range of routine research tasks using technical or processing equipment either in a laboratory, plant or field according to established procedures or methods.To work on projects across the breadth of the Soil Biology team from collecting and coordinating data and samples to assisting with preparation of microbial fermentations and formulations.

What you will be doing

  • Collects, evaluates and reports on data and research information as directed.
  • Performs a variety of routine tasks under supervision, which require experience and familiarisation with methods, practices, and programmes
  • Applies established research practices and methods and repeats tests using new techniques or technology
  • Assists Scientists and Researchers as directed.

Your ideal background

  • Relevant tertiary qualification; a Diploma or Bachelor's qualification
  • At least 2 years technical experience
  • Microbiology - aseptic technique, enumeration of microorganisms from environmental samples; microscopy, culturing of microbes, media preparation
  • Experience with soil/plant assays or insect bioassays would be useful
