Trainee Livestock Representative

Due to an internal transfer an exciting opportunity has come up for a Trainee Livestock Representative to join our very successful Mid/South Canterbury Livestock Team, based in the Temuka region. This is a fantastic entry level opportunity to begin your long and successful career in the agricultural sector.

About the role

This Traineeship is a great foundation to begin your career. This full time, fixed-term role will introduce you to all the facets of PGG Wrightson's successful Livestock business over a 12-18 month period. Under the guidance of our experienced Livestock agents and managers across the country and through a structured programme of modules and assessments that are designed to provide you with a broad 'generalist' understanding and ability; you will be exposed to everything - from sales and technical knowledge, through to client management and systems.

You will learn about:

  • What makes a successful Livestock Representative or 'Agent'
  • Qualitative and quantitative technical assessments of livestock
  • Quoting, contracts, systems and processes that support our commercial operations
  • Other specialist livestock areas such as deer/velvet, genetics and standardbred
  • End to end systems of livestock supply chain
  • Compliance and legislation that plays a key role in the industry

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Enthusiasm and a passion for the NZ Agriculture industry
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A passion for sales, good stockmanship and a willingness to learn at every opportunity
  • The ability to grasp new concepts quickly and be physically fit
  • A basic understanding of the agricultural industry, and current challenges - some practical farming experience would be advantageous, but not essential
  • Hold a full, current and clean New Zealand driver licence
