THE COMPANY
A British Overseas Territory, the Falkland Islands, are an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Southern Atlantic, offering pristine beaches and an incredible natural environment supporting abundant wildlife and a thriving community. The Falklands Landholdings Corporation is the largest agricultural enterprise in the Falkland Islands. The predominantly sheep and wool grazing operation consists of 300,000 hectares of land on which are grazed around 150,000 sheep and 1,000 cattle.

THE ROLE
The current General Manager is nearing the completion of his contract and now seeks to appoint a successor.
The position, reporting to the Corporation’s Board is responsible for the strategic leadership, direction, operational management and development of the business which has a turnover of around £3.3 million pounds and employs 30 full time staff.
The appointment will be made for a fixed term of up to four years in the first instance.
The position represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a unique experience and to make a difference in a close knit community.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management of and training and development of Farm Managers
  • Business Planning and measurement and reporting of outcomes
  • Maximise profitability and increase farm productivity
  • Sale of agricultural products    
  • Management of company assets  


REQUIREMENTS

  • High level people management skills with demonstrated history of staff development and working with the community
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English 
  • A degree in agriculture, management or business
  • A high degree of business acumen
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in business leadership, analytics and strategic planning preferably but not necessarily gained in a corporate environment
  • Experience in marketing of agricultural products, particularly wool would be an advantage but is not essential
  • Computer literacy with competency in MS Office
  • Driver’s license 


LOCATION
Main office based in Stanley, Falkland Islands

REMUNERATION
A starting salary will be negotiated which is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Significant tax incentives are offered. There is also eligibility for a bonus on satisfactory completion of contract. 
Relocation assistance is provided for the successful candidate and his family. Annual return flights are paid for to the country of origin. 30 days paid leave are provided annually. Basic health services and prescriptions are provided free of charge. Free education is provided in Stanley for children up to the age of 16 and assistance for overseas education is provided for children over 16.
