Compliance Investigator

What do we do?

As an Investigator with the Ministry for Primary Industries, you'll be at the forefront of safeguarding New Zealand's unique environment - we are responsible for criminal investigations in sectors relating to biosecurity, food safety, fisheries, forestry, and animal welfare.

What do we need from you?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Investigator / and or an Investigator to join our Wellington based investigation team.

You will ensure MPI targets offending effectively - as you plan, lead and undertaking criminal investigations. As an experienced professional you will be meticulous in all aspects of your investigation and file preparation. You will be good at working in a team environment, as you'll be working together with other investigators to prepare and then present robust prosecution cases.  A key skill for this role is the ability to communicate broadly - with everyone from high level stakeholders to external agencies to individuals who may not be very happy to speak with you.  You'll also have the ability to digest large amounts of information and pull out the relevant and most important elements to support the case you've built.  You should be inquisitive, intelligent, and able to interview individuals, collect evidence and deploy a range of modern investigative techniques.

Ideally you will have Police Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) experience or similar investigative training. You will be familiar with search and surveillance legislation, criminal procedure, evidence law, and criminal disclosure. In addition to your investigative experience, you will be familiar with managing risk, deadlines, sensitive issues and confidentiality in an enforcement setting. This is an operational role, requiring an ability to work outdoors in remote rural / coastal areas of NZ.
