Mt Olympus "Playground of the Gods" is a very special club field in a remote location in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. www.mtolympus.co.nz

Mt Olympus is an amazing place with a great reputation. It is loved by people with a strong sense of adventure, who enjoy uncrowded, back country, off-piste skiing, ski-touring or snowboarding. Steeped in history and tradition, the club has a welcoming and inclusive family feel.

The ski lodge is a fantastic building situated mid mountain and includes a hot tub, bar, chef-catered kitchen and modern live-in staff accommodation. Working hours are long, days off average as 12 days on 2 days off, but the rosters are dependent on weather and other conditions.

The season is approximately 12 weeks. The start of the season is weather dependent and is sometime from late June through to September/October.

For the season of 2019 Mt Olympus seek to appoint the position of Senior Snow Safety Officer and are looking for the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Extensive patrol & forecasting experience  as a senior snow safety officer 

  • Minimum NZ or Canadian avalanche level 2

  • Pre Hospital Emergency Care certificate

  • Explosives certificate - both snow blasting and hazardous substances licence

  • A knowledge of how club fields operate

The job requires the snow safety officer to::

  • Ensure a high standard of safety is maintained for all customers and staff

  • Provide specialist emergency response, care and transport for customers and staff

  • Demonstrate a high degree of hazard awareness and relate this to the importance in reducing accidents

  • Manage avalanche control and snow safety related duties such as snowpack, avalanche and weather monitoring

  • Provide up-to-date and accurate information to the public including morning snow reports

  • Maintain signage and all safety strategies to an effective level

  • Ensure all safety and operational checks have been completed thoroughly and within set time frames and that high quality standards are maintained

  • Ensure all work areas are clean, tidy, maintained and ready for use

  • Deal with complaints, compliments and suggestions in a helpful, empathetic, polite and professional manner

  • Provide assistance to your fellow team members at all times

  • Be physically fit with appropriate stamina levels to work long long hours in all weather conditions

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range or people

  • Respond in a positive and proactive manner to feedback from supervisors/managers

  • Maintain an approachable and co-operative persona with co-workers and customers

  • A positive, fun and happy personality and commitment to great customer service

  • Punctual and reliable and high energy levels

  • A flexible approach to work hours, customer needs and the direction of the organisation
