Academic Services Team Leader

In 1968 the University of Auckland's School of Medicine opened its doors to receive the first intake of students. Since then our institution has developed into the multidisciplinary Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, with many thousands of students training in nursing, pharmacy, medical imaging, audiology, optometry, public health and medical science, with robust research profiles across all these areas.

About the Role

The opportunity has arisen within the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences for an enthusiastic and customer-focused individual to join the friendly, busy and lively workplace of the Faculty Student Centre, home to both our Student and Academic Services teams.

Reporting to the Student Academic Services and Engagement Manager, you will be a key member of the team in a position that holds operational, relationship management and customer service responsibilities. You will lead the Academic Services team of seven staff based at Grafton and Tamaki Campuses.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the University's academic regulations and administrative processes and manage the work of the Centre's Academic Services team to support the academic staff of the five schools in the Faculty. The successful applicant will also be a role model, demonstrating strong people management and leadership skills plus possess a positive `can do' attitude.

Key accountabilities within the position include the following:

  • Lead, manage and support a team of Academic Services staff to ensure effective and efficient coordination of academic administration and regulatory processes across the schools in accordance with university policy
  • Oversee and manage the timetabling, room allocations and enrolment controls for all courses offered in each semester
  • Act as a conduit between the Student and Academic Services teams, academic schools and other stakeholders both within and externally to the faculty and/or university to ensure processes and activities are delivered within University policy, efficiently and consistently
  • Work collaboratively toward operational and strategic continuous improvement initiatives at a University level and throughout the faculty
