Are you a people person who enjoys providing advice that will help customers in their decision making?  Do you have excellent follow through and time management skills to ensure customers get the information they need at the right time to make the right decisions?  Are you an excellent communicator, having mastered the art of both written and oral communication skills? 

If that sounds like you, then working as a Student Advisor at Open Polytechnic could be the role for you.

Open Polytechnic is New Zealand's specialist provider of vocational open and distance learning. We are committed to innovation and excellence in supporting lifelong learning to develop an independent, skilled and internationally competitive workforce.

Our Student Advisors play an important role in our student experience, ensuring our prospective and current students get the right advice, at the right time, to enrol and progress on the right study pathway.  Working closely with other Open Polytechnic directorates, Student Advisors also guide our students through their study journey, advise on credit transfer, and ensure student facing information relating to our qualifications is informative and up to date.

This Student Advisor role will provide advice to students in our education and early childhood education qualifications.  In times of high demand, they will also assist other Student Advisors in providing advice to students on a variety of qualifications. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • fantastic networking skills, and able to utilise internal networks to assist student decision making;
  • effective listening skills and the ability to build a rapport with students;
  • a high level of computer literacy;
  • ability to prioritise workload so that student enrolments are approved in a timely way
  • ability to define and articulate information effectively and appropriately for the situation and audience
  • excellent planning skills to manage multiple tasks in a busy work environment, while at the same time provide collegial support to other student advisors.

Previous experience working in a customer/student support role, or in providing in-depth advice to customers/students is preferred.  If you love a role where you can help others with information that will assist them on their study journey, and have the right skills, then we would love to hear from you.
