About the business
Project Island Song is a unique partnership between the community group the Guardians of the Bay of Islands (the contractor), Te Rawhiti hapū Ngati Kuta and Patukeha, and the Department of Conservation. This partnership is dedicated to restoring ecological balance to the islands of the Eastern Bay of Islands (Ipipiri). Drawing together the energy, talent and culture of local people to bring the birdsong back to Ipipiri, note by note.
About the role
An exciting part-time contract opportunity has arisen to lead the development of the volunteer engagement work for Project Island Song, nurturing the involvement of people living within the Bay of Islands area and beyond.
We are looking for someone with excellent people skills, knowledge of wildlife & ecology, a background in both community engagement & practical conservation delivery and proven achievements in delivery of programmes of activities. Being able to demonstrate a high level of innovation and enthusiasm to motivate, support and inspire others to get involved in our work is essential. The post holder will need to communicate well with a range of people from urban and rural areas, and will be able to demonstrate their ability and passion for people and wildlife. Building good quality relationships with partners, key groups, organisations and stakeholders is important to deliver our objectives. The Volunteering Development Officer leads Project Island Song's volunteer activities, providing a one-stop shop for volunteering including the management of individual and organisational relationships. The officer will contribute to the grant financed projects of Project Island Song, supporting the project legacy to embed volunteering into the everyday working practices of Project Island Song. The Volunteering Development Officer will be responsible for key aspects of Project Island Song's volunteer development such as recruitment, induction, communications, training, coordination, retention, motivation, recognition and engagement.
Working on existing and new volunteering project, and supporting the volunteering needs of other team members, you'll look at different ways of involving volunteers and growing our volunteering base. Your ability to work across teams will be instrumental, sharing best practice and ensuring we're offering a great experience for our volunteers.
