Student Advocacy & Welfare Coordinator

The Universal College of Learning is a government-funded Institute of Technology, with four campuses in Palmerston North, Whanganui, Horowhenua and Wairarapa. It meets the needs of local communities and industry by providing tertiary level training to over 6,000 students each year through a wide range of programmes from entry level certificates and foundation courses to diplomas, degrees and opportunities in post graduate study. 

The Student Success Team at UCOL provides holistic support to all students to overcome their barriers to learning.  Our primary focus is to support the teaching and learning occurring in the classroom through targeted support.   We are looking for a Student Advocacy & Welfare Coordinator to be part of our dynamic team.  The purpose of this role is to provide advocacy for UCOL students in academic, non-academic, hardship and welfare related issues by empowering and representing the best interests of students. Advocacy will actively represent individual students and adhere to UCOL policy and procedure. This role will also promote associated services across UCOL campuses and be a valued and trusted resource for both students and UCOL staff.

This role is a permanent 1 FTE (40 hours per week) position based at our Palmerston North Campus.

The ideal candidate will have proven:

  • Relevant tertiary level qualification; preference in Social Work;
  • Project Management skills;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite of programmes to a competent level
