The Wairoa District is continuing its journey of transformation. The Wairoa District Council is seeking a truly customer-focused Group Manager Community Assets and Services to strategically lead and take responsibility for the provision of the community’s infrastructure, building and planning related services, and supporting the enablement of economic and community wellbeing.   

You will provide inspirational leadership, and shape high-performing teams building business acumen and seamless service delivery. As a member of the core leadership team, you will provide inspirational leadership to the wider organisation, taking a lead role along with your fellow Group Managers, in putting the customer at the heart of the business.

You will be passionate about serving your community with a deep understanding of your customers’ needs. You will act as the group’s champion by shaping and developing innovative strategies that continuously improve the customer experience.

As the Group Manager, you will report directly to the CEO, with responsibility for the strategic direction and operational oversight of community assets and engineering, including water, roading, and utilities, as well as services including building control and policy planning 

You will provide strategic direction and leadership supporting governance in key decision making, providing long-term infrastructure thought leadership and planning, and innovative service delivery to meet the long-term strategic challenges and issues.

You will have an affinity with iwi and an appreciation of the cultural elements of the Wairoa District and role model a values-based leadership style that fosters positive can-do attitudes and strengthens Tikanga Māori.

You may have previous experience in the local government sector and in any of the portfolios, although more importantly, you will have a proven track record of success in a senior management role gained in the public or private sector leading high-performing teams.
