Children's Contact Supervisor

About the role

Children's Contact Supervisors provide supervision during a contact visit between a child and their visiting parent, ensuring a physically, psychologically and emotionally safe environment for the child during the contact visit.

We require casual Contact Supervisors who can go on a roster, as well as work on an ‘on call’ basis at our centres in Christchurch.

Most of our contact sessions happen on a Saturday so weekend flexibility is required.  Training is provided and you will work alongside our Facilitator and Coordinator to ensure safety of all children.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure children’s safety during the contact visit
  • Preparation of the session – review briefings, risk assessment, and set up environment for age appropriate toys and activities
  • Facilitate appropriate interaction between parent and child
  • Undertake end of session debriefing and participate in any incident reporting and investigation processes as required
  • Complete all relevant documentation for each contact visit.

Skills and Experience

This work is well suited to people who have the ability to deal positively with conflict, are mature and have life experience.

  • No pre-requisite formal qualification necessary – full training will be given
  • Previous experience of working with children (0-14 years).
  • Ability to understand the needs and respond appropriately to ensure children’s safety
  • Understanding and empathy for the children and families attending the session
  • Knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts such as child development, attachment theory, dynamics of family violence is desirable.
  • A current First Aid Certificate or a willingness to obtain one
