About Hawke's Bay Regional Council

Hawke's Bay Regional Council is the regional authority for the Hawke's Bay region in New Zealand with key roles in environmental management and education; flood control and drainage; pollution and waste; and land, water and coastal management. Supporting approximately 150,000 residents, Council's vision is to enable a connected and vibrant region with resilient communities, a prosperous economy, and a clean, healthy environment.

About the Opportunity

Hawke's Bay Regional Council now has a newly created role for a full-time Project Engineer to join their team in Napier.

Reporting to the Manager - Regional Projects, your main responsibility will be to provide day-to-day management of small to medium sized infrastructure projects for Council, as well as contributing to the strategic direction on how the Asset Management Group delivers its capital program.

With a focus on change management initiatives, you will champion the project process/framework in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of project deliverables.

More specifically, your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Delivering a portfolio of capital infrastructure projects within agreed timeframes and budgets;
  • Managing infrastructure projects through the full lifecycle from activation to closeout managing designers and constructors to handover agreed assets to the asset manager and operator;
  • Providing a centre of expertise in capital project delivery and project estimating, including the maintenance and improvement of the project management framework; and
  • Developing and maintaining construction contracts (NZS3910) with both in-house construction resources and the external contracting industry.

About the Benefits

With over 80% of employees consistently rating Hawke's Bay Regional Council as a great place to work in recent staff surveys, it's no wonder that the average employee tenure is 12 years! Council has succeeded in creating a welcoming, fun and family-friendly environment for its people.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with a competitive salary package, negotiable with skills and experience. Candidates moving to Napier will be offered relocation assistance, and you will also have access to in-house benefits such as salary continuance insurance.

You'll also enjoy life insurance cover and a vehicle for negotiated home to work use.

You will leave work each day knowing you have made a contribution to ensuring a positive, ecologically friendly future for Council.
