Volunteer Wellington - your community connector

Volunteer Wellington plays a vital role in the community and voluntary sector, championing volunteering and building the capacity and capability of communities in greater Wellington.  We work with 400 community groups providing a diverse volunteer work force needed to deliver their essential services.  We provide a comprehensive professional development programme to support best practice in the community sector.  Each year we recruit and refer 3000 volunteer seekers to voluntary roles and broker more than 100 employee volunteers to complete 100 community projects.

About the role

Reporting to the Regional Manager the Funding Officer position is key to procuring sufficient funding to ensure the sustainability of Volunteer Wellington.  It is a part-time position for 12 hours a week.  

  • Manage funding applications, reporting and associated negotiations including development of relationships with stakeholders
  • Identify funding opportunities within existing sources from where new projects may emerge
  • Seek further funding opportunities from new sources
  • Develop functional relationships with key organisations, local authorities, central government, funders, community organisations and other influential organisations
  • Promote the profile of Volunteer Wellington amongst community organisations, funders and other influential local organisations including talks and workshops
  • Develop an awareness of all VW's projects both currently in action and those in the strategic proposal process. All activities have the potential to be included in funding proposals
  • Contribute to and provide information for Volunteer Wellington's communication, marketing and social media activities
  • Work with management team on strategic planning which may lead to funding partnerships/applications

Skills and experience

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in grant applications and accountability reporting
  • Well developed communication skills, both written and oral.  You will need to demonstrate the ability to present information in an appropriate and engaging manner
  • A good organiser with a methodical approach to planning, analysis, presentation of information and an ability to prioritise tasks in order to meet deadlines
  • Initiative to create funding opportunities – and carry through with the necessary requirements
  • Ability and confidence to make the ask
  • Ability to build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Innovative thinking skills
  • Flexible, adaptable and willingness to meet demands and work to deadlines
  • Enjoy working collaboratively, as well as work effectively independently
  • Background knowledge and interest in Community and Voluntary Sector, and Tangata Whenua
  • Computer literacy in the Microsoft Office 97 Professional suite
