We are looking for an enthusiastic Ranger to join our Recreation/Historic Team in the Fiordland National Park over the 2018/2019 summer season.

If you enjoy working in the outdoors, meeting new people and don't mind getting your feet wet then apply now.

You will be assisting with the day to day operation and maintenance of our Great Walk Huts, tracks and surrounds. You will be providing information to Park users on weather, safety and Park environs, as well as interpretation on fauna, flora and natural history.

This is a diverse position requiring flexibility and the willingness to move between different tasks at short notice. You could be working as a Campsite Ranger at Mavora Lakes Conservation Area or providing cover for the Great Walk Hut Rangers during time off.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that the cleaning and maintenance of Huts and Campsites are to the highest standard
  • Ensuring fee compliance
  • Upgrading of tracks, structure, amenity areas and signs where required

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • An understanding and appreciation of conservation values in New Zealand and an ability to communicate these to a wide range of people
  • A positive ‘can do' attitude - willing to go the extra mile
  • The practical know-how to make something out of nothing
  • Backcountry tramping experience
  • Good knowledge of Fiordland and the Southland/Otago Region
  • Team player who works well under pressure
  • Current First Aid Certificate and valid Driver's License

This position works to a roster system and applicants must be available to complete the full period of employment from 8 October 2018 to 2 May 2019.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
