About the business

Aktive is committed to helping people and communities across Auckland to live more active lives. As both Sport NZ and Auckland Council's strategic partner, Aktive invests in organisations and projects that will increase and sustain participation and strengthen all parts of the sporting and recreational system.

    About the role

    Reporting to the Coaching & Talent Development Manager, with a dotted line to the Young People's Manager in a new fixed-term role (2 years), you will be working across two passionate teams who aim, as part of The Auckland Approach to Community Sport:

    • to help sporting organisations, coaches, teachers, athletes and parents align to a values-based approach that drives positive coaching and athlete development behaviour; and
    • to help young people develop a lifelong love of being physically active as a valued component of Hauora / well-being.

    You will contribute to this by:

    • gathering and reviewing information of all curricular and extra-curricular sporting activities that already occur within intermediate and secondary schools;
    • collating and sharing best practice findings to ensure quality sport development experiences are being designed and delivered within school structures;
    • identifying workforce requirements and developing a workforce development plan;
    • designing a sustainable approach to developing and delivering sport in schools, using the resources and expertise of others.

    This new role comes with high expectations. You will bring knowledge of the key principles of youth development, an understanding of the relationship between education and sport and strong connecting skills. You will also relish the opportunity to meet challenging KPIs and deliver outstanding results for the intermediate and secondary school sport communities. This includes working with Regional Sports Trusts (RSTs) / CLM – Community Sport, College Sport, secondary and intermediate schools and other providers.
