Animal Welfare Inspector

Contract: Full time, permanent position

Location: Tauranga – Covers wider area as required.

SPCA is one of the best loved and most respected charities in New Zealand, with a proud history of helping animals in need and advocating for animal welfare since 1883.

Every day of the year our Inspectorate team are investigating animal welfare complaints, enforcing the Animal Welfare Act, prosecuting offenders, responding to emergency animal welfare cases and advising people of their obligations in caring for their animals.

We are looking for a motivated and suitably qualified/experienced person to join the SPCA Inspectorate Team in Tauranga.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge of the Animal Welfare Act, have practical experience with animals, and: 

  • Preferably be warranted and experienced as an Animal Welfare Inspector
  • Or currently hold the qualifications required under the Animal Welfare Act or currently be training to obtain this qualification
  • Be a self-motivated team player, who is enthusiastic and passionate about a career as a compliance professional.
  • Have excellent communication and conflict management skills and the physical abilities to carry out the role effectively.
  • Have a flexible approach to the hours of work, be able to work unsupervised and to prioritise effectively, managing complex workloads.
  • Will have a full current New Zealand driver’s licence
