Manager/ Duty Manager
How do you even have a chance when over a hundred people are applying for the same job in a small town.
No chance if changing careers, no one will give you the opportunity or chance to prove that your skills will actually cross over to that industry.
Is it also based on your age , they think your getting to old so why bother putting the effort into training.
Also businesses do not want to have to provide any form of training these days they just want you to walk in and know how to do the job

Heart goes out to you, agree they are not willing to do a bit of training, to get a loyal employee. They don't realise that if you are an older job seeker that you are likely to stay, where as a younger person may use them as a stepping stone in some situations.

It's really tough Sonja and there aren't easy answers...Especially when it comes to unfair age biases.
My best advice is try to put yourself in the hiring manager's shoes e.g. if you were looking through lots of applications, what would stand out to you? I feel like like a really well written cover letter can show your personality and why you've taken a real interest in this job. Might be a small thing but sometimes it's the little things that make a difference.

One of the best things you can do when making a switch is redo your CV to be a little more skills focused Sonja.
Check out some tips here: https://www.seek.co.nz/career-advice/article/how-to-create-a-transferable-skills-based-cv
It's a different way of structuring things so you can show off all the skills you already have. Putting the things relevant to the job front and centre, before they focus on job titles.
